For the life of me, I am no longer able to wake up in the morning to go on my run...
I find that in order to get the distance I want to complete, I need to wake up at 5:15 so I can be out by 5:30, be back by 6:30 and have 30 minutes to piddle before I have to get ready to work...
I could do it for a while, but one morning last week, I slept in, and I can't get it back...

How do you guys who wake up...well...wake up?
You need to break the cycle once. Once you are in, just keep at it.
Start with going to bed early. So, if you need 8 hrs of sleep, go to bed by 9 p.m. I am assuming you have a hard time responding to alarms. You can try using a radio that will go off and wake you up gently (or harshly, if you want it that way).
Another thing you could do is tell yourself when you go to bed at night, that you will wake up at 5:15 tomorrow. Say that in your mind a few times and your chances of success should improve.

And my other big problem...
Without fail...15 minutes in, everytime, I have to take a serious load off my mind if you get my drift...which means that another 15 of my hour is spent overexerting myself so that I don't...ahem...overexert myself...

I get up early on Sunday's in order to complete a long run before it gets too hot. I find it easier to get up if I've set everything out that I need for my run. That includes coffee on a timer, fluids mixed and in bottles or CamelBak, clothes, etc.

-- The essential thing in life is not so much conquering as fighting well.
Baron De Coubertin, founder of the modern Olympic Games
1. Go to bed early. When I was getting up at 5:00 to get my 90 minutes in, I was in the sack reading by 9:00 pm.
2. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids. Dehydration is the #1 cause of problems with #2. I keep a one liter bottle of water on my bedstand, and usually finish it by the morning. A small amt of caffeine as soon as you hop out of bed (I chew on a tab to short-circuit the whole coffee- making ritual) also helps.
I usually cut it so short that I was a time-and-motion study -- immediately showering and hustling off to work.

Ah, my favorite topics. Morning running and huge dumps. One strategy I use is to limit the fiber content of my breakfast, so the next day there is less bulk and mabye less urge (dependent on the transit time of your colon). You clould let go in some bushes if your run took you through some woods or park (one of the benefits of running early is that there are less witnesses). I think after a while your colon will learn not to respond to the run by letting go. Are you a coffee drinker? Morning coffee will get the dump out of me within 3 sips. Sometimes, just the smell of coffee will do it. This is the best, get it out before you run.
