DO the wireless computers work well on rear wheels or are they only effective on the front. I am looking for something that I can use on my trainer also?

AfaIk, most wireless computers have a very limited range (50 - 60 cm) and will only work between front wheel and handlebars. -
darnok is right...but check the specs on your wireless because it may be diiferent...a buddy of mine has his rear set up and he hasnt complained about anything so it may just be your choice of computer...ill speak to him and see what kind he has if you want

Both myself and my training partner have tried Sigma BC1200 wireless's. And both of us have gone back to using it with a wire. Wireless sounds like a great idea, but performance is erratic.

What about the new Cateye Double Wireless computers. There's two models. One with normal bike functions and heart rate monitor and another thats with normal bike functions and wireless cadence. Here's a link http://www.cateye.com/products/cycle_computers/CC_CD300DW.html

I am looking for something that I can use on my trainer also?I recently fitted a Sigma BC1200 to my bike putting the sensor on the front. Looking at the instructions there is quite a narrow beam of data being broadcast by the sensor (I guess this keeps the battery life down and limits interference). They are clearly assuming that you will fit the sensor almost directly below the receiver on the handlebars.
HAving said that the seat stays are at about the right angle to point the antenna at the handlebars so it might work, although having a large bag of water (you) in the way will not help. I suspect you are just going to have to try it!

Cannot comment on fitting a wireless on the rear wheel, but have gone wireless for about a year with a VDO C10+ and am extremely happy. No problems, one funny reading in the entire time I have used it (by a military airport - I suddenly realised that I was riding at 109 kph, for a moment, then everything went back to normal - great for the average speed that day).
Highly recommended, and the batteries have held up for a year of normal use without any trouble at all.
