I didn't have to be at work until 10. OTOH I'm still here,
with no letup in sight. Server upgrade that went pear
shaped, and then the pear went into a blender. It's all got
rather ugly, I just hope I manage to wangle something people
can log in to before tomorrow comes around :-(

Just been thinking whilst dozing and watching the Tour on TV
that it was a nice route. Be great in fine weather. I have
used most of the roads before just not in this order !

I did go out this morning, but turned home early. The route
wasn't nearly as tough as yours and the weather wasn't
nearly as bad, from the sound of it, but I just didn't fancy
it (I think I mentally hadn't got out of bed) and I was
struggling to keep up with my companions, despite a fairly
sedate pace, so I left them to it and turned back for home.

I was surprised on checking my computer when I got home to
find that I'd actually done 30 miles - I thought it was
nearer half that - so it wasn't a completely wasted outing,
but I do regret not sticking with it. A nice long ride might
have been just the thing to clear my head. Ho hum.

Strines is the road that runs from Langsett on the A616
Holmfirth to Stocksbridge road, over Bradfield Moors and
past the Strines pub and on to the A57 Snake Pass road. It's
lovely, esp. if you turn off and head out to the reservoirs
around Bradfield and just meander!

I must confess towards the top of the first major climb I
breifly consider turning left back into Yorkshire instead of
right to Lancashire. This point is about 25 miles from home
so I figured that since I was already soaked that it
couldn't get MUCH worse. I hoped the rain might blow across
or that it be restricted to the West of the Pennines so I'd
ride out of it again soon enough. It did get a little worse
but never as bad as 'that day on Fremont Pass'. I was
actually riding well, maybe because I was not overheating or
the wind was light.

A ha. I actually rode that road from the A57 side years ago
before I moved to Leeds. It was when the first Leeds Classic
was on. I parked at Penistone rode to the top of Holme Moss
for the race then afterwards I went to Glossop then back
over Snake Pass and Strines. I recall it was a b*tch but it
will be interesting to see how I handle it now. Might work
out well actually as I am trying to find a good route to
Sheffield too.

(Oxfordshire). We ended up pushing our bikes through 4 foot
of flood water (you couldn't actually see the bikes, just
