I'm new to MTB and have noticed that many people my size seem to ride smaller bikes than I would have expected. I was wondering if someone could tell me if these 17" would be too small for me or not. I'm 6' tall:
im 6'1" i used to ride an 18" -- i havnt been on it in 4 years, and i just ordered an 19" XTC frame, and im hoping it not too small for me now. i do prefer a smaller bike though, at 6'1" i would steer away from a 17" frame, but every bike company is different, you need to ride them to see what is really right for you. i actually took a gamble, like you are speaking of. i just ordered my frame, hoping 19" will do it for me. my friend is 5'10" i think he rides a 17"
I'm 6'2", 240 and have always ridden 16" frames. My buddy is 6'4" and has a 21"......I tried to ride it and found it to be VERY VERY hard to control on downhills and tech. rides. It's just too high off the ground. It's all personal pref.; but, I would say smaller is better. You can always raise the seat on climbs.
