Anyone who's interested, there is a four person HPV team category in this years' Race Across AMerica. The race started earlier this week and the first place team since Kansas IS the HPV team, Team ALS Lightning. Comprised of Sam Whittington, James Kern, Timothy Wouldenberg and Bob Fourney, Team ALS passed the front running upright four person teams in Kansas. They will be coming in first place (barring any catastrophes) tonight after midnight. They have truly been smokin' most of the way. The race runs from San Diego CA to Atlantic City NJ. Yes The mountains of West Virginia also took their toll on the average speed of the team, too, allowing the 2nd place team to close the gap to 1 hour. The remaining 108 miles is relatively flat though, and I am hoping that the HPV team will remain in the lead for the final push in to Atlantic City.

Impossible. Nobody buys a recumbent to go fast, Mr Ed says so...
What was this? 4 guys taking turns riding a faired recumbent? I think I will confine my interest to the real world of the solo riders doing it all on their own. No one would be interested in this RAAM at all except for the solo riders. Any recumbent solo riders on RAAM?
What's up with that 8.82MPH average last leg? It took them 1:38 to cover the last 14.4 miles (DF'ers did it in 0:24).

As for the low mph in the last leg, I suspect it might be due to exhaustion! Penalties were assessed along the route and were posted for the teams to see on the internet.
In RAAM, much of the thrill, is seeing if the body will actually get you there, and that would be true probably even in a group ride on a bent...

Reading the RAAM website and the maps for the riders, I noticed that at the end of the race a bridge was closed to bikes during certain times and the RAAM riders were to wait at beginning of the bridge until it opened to bikes as much as 8 hrs later. May be that the recumbent team got there at a bad time and had to sit and wait.
