Hi, my son bmx races and he has been wanting to try the clipless pedals. We bought him the Vans Exacerbate 2 shoes and some cheap Wellgo pedals for beginning. (Will move to better ones if he likes it) Anyway, we have been trying to install the cleats and just cannot get them to go on. It's almost like the bolts aren't long enough to go through the soles of the shoes. Can anyone that is familiar with these shoes give us some advise. Do I need to go to the hardware store and find some longer bolts?

I thought clipless pedals on a BMX bike could be a bit dangerous, but technology is always making progress :-).
As I'm sure you know, the value of clipless pedals is that they let the hamstrings pull the pedal through the bottom of the crank revolution. But for me, I really didn't understand how to "train" my hamstrings to pull that way until I got on a trainer. Is that an option for your son? BMX seats tend to be set down a lot lower in the seat tube than other bikes, so In wonder how much value it's going to add.
well i can see the other guy didnt help much, so......... i had exactly the same problem as u and spent like 15 mins puzzleing over it unfortunately i cant remember exactly what the problem was but it was something to do with the washers, try them both ways round, and also switch holes, im pretty sure that was right, make sure u screw them down as hard as u possibly can as i didnt and it really [censored] me up, however i agree with the other guy, BMX'ing requires to put ur foot down alot when u crash and die, sometimes its akward to get ur foot out, at ur own risk b it, i hoped this helped!
using clipless with bmx bikes is not uncommon at all. they're used for racing, and give the same benefits as clipless on a mountain or road bike.
as for installing the cleats, are your screws the right width? are they long enough to reach the sole of the shoe through the cleat? If you're still having trouble, just take them to your local bike shop. I work in a bike shop, and a lot of times we will install the cleats to the shoes for our customers, and then show them how to adjust the cleats. just stop by the shop if it's not too far 🙂
