If anyone is daft enough to ride something that I built,
then I don't think I'd have the heart to charge much.

New skills required though:

Pipe bending (To build custom handlebars 'cos mine could do
with longer bar ends, but then I'd not get the shifter to
work.) Jig building (The next challenge. The frame alignment
is well within tolerance - possibly better than some cheap
bikes - but it'd be nice to get it closer.

While my welding is good enough, it'd be nice if it was
much better.

Seriously though, if I can build a jig, I guess I could
make a frame + bottom bracket kit for any interested
parties! <thinks>

They are about to scrap some abandoned bikes from the bike
sheds so I could get the second half of the prototandem ..

PS: If it's not a terribly rude question, what does your
frame weigh? Is your bottom bracket attachment the same
as on the Dutch Speed Bike?

I haven't weighed it yet, but it's "not too heavy". My gut
feeling is=20 that it weighs in at less than the Street
Machine but obviously doesn't=20 have the bonus of rear
suspension.

The interesting thing is that the weight appears to be
distributed about=20
50:50. The CoG is high enough to mean that a solid brake
with the front=20 wheel can lift the rear of the bike
(There's not much danger of it doing=20 that once all
the camping gear is on it though ;-)).

The bottom bracket attachment is frankly [censored] and in need of
revision.=20 It's based on the same design but uses a
complete shell and two 2mm=20 (thus flexible) steel plates
with four bolt holes. The problem is that=20 the plates have
to be distorted a lot before it generates enough=20 clamping
force to resist the force of the pedals.

I plan to use our milling machine (and a jig) to make a
steel version of=20 the beautiful machined aluminium jobbie
that Dutch Speed provide.

The basic principle is however, the same.

And with regard to cost (Which I forgot to mention) back of
an envelope=20 maths suggests a figure between =A3300 &
=A3350. Probably nearer the latter=
=20
once I've sorted out a new front wheel!

I designed a bent about 5 or 6 years ago (modelled on the
Kingcycle), but I decided that by the time I'd acquired the
necessary skills and bought materials and made all the
mistakes that I was bound to make and bought more materials,
it'd probably be cheaper just to buy one.

I'm always seriously impressed when someone builds their own
bike from scratch, especially when they get it quite as
right on the first attempt as Jon seems to have done.
