As someone else mentioned Argos are now selling the Pro- Action tent for fifteen quid, so I popped up the town and bought one to stick in the attic for the day my first one expires on me. While in Argos I noticed they were selling a Pro-Action 65 litre rucksack for a tenner! Promptly bought one for my daughter to use on her Scout camps. It looks OK. Obviously not as well made as my old Karrimor Alpiniste but at a fraction of the price. Talking of Karrimor, Argos were selling various Karrimor rucksacks at what appeared to be less than half the price of my local mountaineering shop. Finally I at last succumbed to the digital camera brigade. A Canon Powershot A80 with freebie 128Mb memory card and an extra set of batteries for 189 quid seemed a good deal. Now I just have to learn how to work it.

Hi Bill, I noticed myself that my wee note had managed to press most of the groups buttons and seriously thought about mentioning GPS in passing just to do things properly! For the record I have had a GPS for at least 5 years and am still perfectly happy with my old Garmin GPS II. Although as I only ever use the grid reference function I would'nt mind a Casio watch kind of thing that had a stripped down GPS function; time, reference and possibly altitude would be perfection. Especially if available in Argos for a fiver.

They've got the Crag Hoppers Dri-pac 50ltr (Mens) and 45ltr (womens) for £37.50. I bought the women's - which is actually called a TT45, if that means anything to anyone? (I've never had any Craghoppers kit, but it looks good so far - although it may be a bit too technical for me.)
I got the last of that type of rucksack but they still have 18 Pro Action 1-person tents left in the Birkenhead store. (It was *19* before I went in for a spare!)
The Argos website and the in-store brochure don't seem to have the same prices. For example, I couldn't find my rucksack at a reduced price on the website but it was reduced when I got to the shop.

They were. Operative past tense.
I bought a Karrimor daysac in 1979. I retired it from active duty in 1999. Completely worn out: no longer water resistant and you can see daylight through it in places. But it never broke.

Yes it sure is. Designed to sit on a yachts binnacle or something; so it says in the manual. Learnt to use all the functions originally, but now just check exactly where I am every now and then. Handy when I was traversing Beinn Tarsuinn en route for Cheesecake and could barely see my hand in front of my face.
