  1. Can someone tell me the Route format that Anquet will
import, and if there is a program that will convert to it
    from other formats?.

I've seen some posts about .arf files, which are proprietary
and non-ASCII (I've looked at an example), but then I've
seen others mentioning .aef files and I don't have any of
those. What's the difference?. The Anquet site is totally
unhelpful because I can't access anything of use without
    being a registered owner.

I am including download links on our website for our routes,
which I produce by Memory-Map in .rxf format, but it would
be nice to include other formats as well.

    Regards

I think GPS Utility has been upgraded to convert
    Anquet files.

Don't know offhand because I don't have it installed at
the moment, but I believe they've added the option to
save and load different sets of paths and icons so that
may be it (paths and icons used to remain on the maps
permanently which was a major pain because I like to draw
different things on the same maps - I had to mess around
renaming folders instead - haven't tried the new saving
    and loading yet).

They are a bit paranoid aren't they?

I think it would be very nice if GPS software like Anquet,
Memory Map, OziExplorer etc, could all agree on some kind of
standard so that GPS users could share tracks, waypoints and
routes without all this conversion nonsense.

There is a standard: GPX, unfortunately most of the software
e.g. OziExplorer, GPSU etc pre-dates it which is why they
have their own format. I suspect other less functional
software products are slow to adopt it because their own
proprietry standards tie in users to their products.

I've noticed that GPX is gaining popularity and is
increasingly supported by more and more products.

All the routes I have saved myself are in .arf format, and I
think the routes on the anquet site are the same. Don't know
    about .aef, sorry.

That's interesting, the .aef extension was the one in GPS
Utility's drop-down list for Anquet format, I just assumed
it was an ASCII variation of a waypoint file since the
file produced is in fact printable. GPSU doesn't mention
    .arf format.

I created a small route in .rxf format and converted it
using the latest GPSU, choosing the .aef Anquet format that
it suggested. I sent this file to an Anquet user to try
importing it, but it won't recognise it at all. Back to the
    drawing board.

Come to think of it, since a .arf file is non-printable
binary, GPSU would need a detailed spec of the format to do
the conversion - but presumably Anquet wouldn't give them
that. If I had the time I'd try to decipher it myself and
write a converter, if only for the satisfaction of annoying
    the hell out of them.

  6. aef. format is the format that Anquet use in their new
software and is used to save data in export format so that
it can be re-imported directly into the quick list.
