  1. I have been unable to find certain information on SPD pedals and, as I live on a small island in the Caribbean without a bike shop, I don't have a good source. My questions are:

What are the basic differences between Shimano SPD, SDP-R, and SPD-LS pedals?

Which has the easiest cleats to walk with?

Are all suitable for road bikes?

    Thanks

spd was used for both mtb and road. It's still used for mtb and is the best for walking if you buy shoes that recess the cleats. They are also the least suitable for serious road work tho. The R and LS are road specific and aren't for hoofng around. No free lunches. They all use a different shoe drilling for cleat mounting, so be careful there when buying shoes.

    Surf around here:

Mountain shoes with mountain cleats are easiest to walk with.
You can use them on road bicycles.
We use them on our road tandem and I use them on my touring bicycle. When you walk through soil and grass it is a good idea to clean them before trying to click in.

Thanks for your response. It was just the info I needed.
