Trackies all ride rollers right? I'm not a trackie (but it's okay, I know a few!) but I thought this would be a good place to try to get some info from some Australian Trackies about where to get a good set of rollers with aluminium drums. I'm after something that folds with about a 3 inch diameter drum and the ability to add a resistance unit later if necessary would be a good option, though not mandatory. Any ideas? I've been using a flatmate's set recently - Tacx with plastic drums (they are grouse) - but I will be heading back home again later and will need to get my own set.
I have yet to see Tacx aluminium rollers. But their 80mm PVC drums seem to be the best option without laying out heaps for a set of Kreitlers. My only issue is if I was to use them outdoors occasionally they would warp wouldn't they?

Yep....plastic ones eventually go a bit egg-shaped.
So how can you prevent this? I would be taking them to TTs and bigger races for warmups so they will be left outside and travell in the car at least occasionally.
I guess the only solution is to try to find some Aluminium rollers.
Most of the trackies around here seem to be using the Minoura aluminium rollers. They have a standard (ie larger than 3"😉 size roller, but i know u can put a resistance unit on them if u want to......a little bit more expensive than tacx too i believe.
BTW smaller roller = higher resistance. Why do u want a small roller and a resistance unit?
I don't necessarily need extra resistance at the moment, I would rather have the smaller rollers since I find the ride a bit more realistic. I have ridden a set of minouras but they have larger drums and would definitely require resistance. Only problem is that I have heard that the resistance unit is too hard. So there is no in-between option (which is what riding smaller drums is like). How long do Minouras last?
It is a subtle difference but if I'm gonna pay $600 for a set of rollers then I want them to give me the ride I expect from them.
I am leaning towards Tacx rather than Minoura cost wise and ride wise, but I don't know how reliable or durable they are and how well they handle heat (not that I am going to set them on fire or anything - I want to know how hot it has to get before they start to warp).
If only I could find some 3 inch Aluminium drum rollers which are sold in Australia. They just don't seem to exist!
i USE Minoura mag turbo rollers they are real smooth and fold in threee and fit in a nice bag http://www.deanwoods.com.au about $500 the set with mag and bag, you will have them for ages and ages they are made strong the parts can all b bought to fix if need b
