  1. Hello,

I have not ridden a bike in about five years, and I want to
start because of my cardiovascular health. I have shopped
around, and I have seen some Aluminum frame bikes that say
it is light. Now I know the steel frames weigh a ton, but it
aluminum much better? Any ideas on a reasonably priced bike
for a starting rider? What is a good bike for someone who is
very overweight? I have been going to the gym for a few
months, swimming, walking, treadmill, stationary bike, and I
know how quickly I lost weight when I started riding a bike
a few years ago. I am looking forward to riding a bike, but
I would like to get what ever is the best for my
    circumstances.

PLEASE HELP with any suggestions, I will appreciate it.

  2. Sounds to me like any bike will work. Just do it.

Where will you be riding? What type of trails? How much do
    you want to spend?

Just FYI, all steels are not the same. I forget the details,
though, so someone else will have to fill you in.

A good bike is one that fits you well and that gives you the
best value for your budget. You don't mention an expected
price range at all; how much can you spend? $200, $500, $1K
or $3K? You can spend even more if you'd like. Different
price ranges will have different recommendations; basically,
the less a bike costs, the fewer "features" you want,
because they have to cut costs somewhere.

Riders over 200 pounds are called "Clydesdales"; they often
require sturdier equipment than some of the lighter riders.

Here's one, and can be had for under $1,200.

It's steel. Don't know who told you steel weigh a ton, but
that's BS, unless you buy one from Wal-Mart.

I just noticed the chain was hung up under the front
derailuer. I wonder how that got past the art editor.
