I'm looking for a new saddle for my road bike. I realise the only real test is to sit and try but I'm interested in feedback from any of you who have a gel saddle. I like the look of the higher spec Selle Italia gel saddles like the Octavia and Turbomatic Quattro. Anyone have any good / bad things to say about these or other gel saddles. I'm using an entry level Selle Italia XO which is not too comfy for me. I currently only ride for fitness but my ideal saddle would let me do a 50km ride without wanting to stop for a break because the saddle is killing me!

I've just got a Fizik Arione (Google for all the hype about Ariones) and so far it's been very good. The choice for me was between the Arione and a Selle Italia SLR? TransAm? - they make so many saddles that look really similar it's difficult to tell which one is which.
The Selle Italia was about $160 and I got the Arione for about $150.
Saddles are difficult - despite what advice you get, you'll still have to choose one, sit your [censored] on it and then hope for the best.

It's not just the saddle, you have to have it positioned properly, both in terms of height, setback and handlebar height. Without getting this right, the best saddle will still be uncomfortable.

Without a doubt the most comfortable saddle on the market is the Selle San Marco Rolls. Yeah a little heavier than some, you won't get a sore ass after 100 miles on one of these.

I had a Brooks on my track bike for a single ride and found it to be the most painful saddle I own.. it's for sale if you want it 🙂

Having ordered the arione, I then did my google research - gather its designed to easily breakin, ideal for a flyweight like me but possibly not so good for the heavyweights.

Not to mention Brooks Professional owners...:-) In daily use I've got a 30 year old Brooks Pro. which is as comfortable as can be. The B17 on the Moulton has only about 5,000 km on it and it's nearly as comfortable as the Pro on the old grey bike. Only nearly though...:-)

Tough question as I can't find any aussie prices for it. It appears to be a Team Professional (Black). It has a scuff mark on one side but other than that appears to be in very good condition. Phantom Cycles has the B-17 for $120 and looking at international sites, the Team Pro is around 50% more than that.
So, I'll leave it up to you to make an offer 🙂 You can have a look at it or I can take pics. If you find out how much they sell for in Oz then I can drop the price accordingly..

I did a fair amount of research and posted a request for recomendations in this forum.
I was originally going to buy a Selle Italia Pro gel flow (with hole) as I thought this would be better for heavier riders. I few replies convinced me that the oposite is true.
On post sugested Fi'zi:k and I found their site very interesting. I spent a lot of time custominsing saddles and finally settled on the CP3 Pave (black and white with red scuff guards - to go with my Zebra Allez Comp. Ordering was easy and delivery was very fast seeing as I live in the middle of the Pacific Ocean (nearest LBS 5000km). It seems shipping is included in the price.
The first time I used it was was all ready to evaluate it as I rode but completely forgot about it - a VERY good sign - but more luck than judgment I think.

Regarding the Brooks.. yeah I realise they take ages to break in, but this was on a track bike.. couple of thousand kays on the track in pain??? No thanks! It's still for sale 🙂
