When I start wearing clipless pedals, do I need to actually try to change my pedalling? Like if I don't try to change the pedalling, will the clipless pedals/shoes be no advantage?

They'll probably give you some advantage as you will be getting more efficient power transfer.

With your feet clipped onto the pedals, you should be able to spin higher cadences, ie, 100-110 rpm. This is good for when you need to generate extra power for hill-climbing and fast tempo pulls on the front.
In addition, you'll be able to apply force over a wider part of the pedal circle by using your hamstrings to pull back and around at the bottom of the stroke. This technique works for me on steep hills to keep the pedals ticking over while still seated.

I wouldnt say you HAVE to change your pedaling, but the clipless will enable you to pedal through the entire stroke (in a circle) rather than just on the down stroke.
