Mine always has.

you might just want to spring for a pay newsfeed. I
personally use SuperNews - it's about $11US for 10Gb
download per month. I got it because a lot of the lower
traffic groups (like this one) fell off my regular ISP's
servers in only 12-24 hours.

Are you sure your new isp doesn't have a news server???
Usually, they do. At worst, you should have a really crappy,
slow news server. Try news(dot)your new isp.

Example of a work around: to read and post from my mother's
dial up (because her server was unbelievably slow), I found
a free news server to download messages and then posted
using hers.

If it is a fairly new ISP then they might not want to spend
the money setting up and maintaining a news server. Our new
cable company did that. Thank god my dial up ISP did.

I haven't checked lately but the German server has only text
newsgroups. As a result their retention is pretty good.
These low traffic text-only newsgroups are being crowded out
by the high volume binary newsgroups.

That depends on the ISP. Most ISPs offer newsgroup access,
but not all do.

The best solution is to get a yahoo or hotmail account (any
freebie will do) and use that to sign up. Once you have your
id and password then just ignore any mail that comes into
that account.

I have a few that are spam free too. The main mail account
that my friends have has gotten contaminated over the years
by using it to send jokes out to folks. The addresses get
included in forwards, etc and somehow spammers get that
account. My ISP has a good spam filtering system so I only
see a handful of misses each day while the filters are
catching 100-200 messages a day.

you can configure the "from" "sender" and "reply to" fields
for the subscribed groups to be whatever you want, as long
as it has a @ sign. You just have to set up the User &
System Profile with the real thing.

"reply to" but I dare not even do that.

under the impression that you also had to post (reply to and
from fields) with your real e-mail account causing several
of my usenet friends to shy away from the Berlin servers.

The server and the reader programs are two different things.
I use the Berlin server to get the posts. Its my Agent that
determines if my from and sender fields are OK or not - the
Berlin server doesn't care. If Agent sends it, the Berlin
server gets it. Simple as that. You just need to sign up
with the Berlin server with a real e-mail address, that's
all. And since I signed up with them, my real e-mail address
has been canceled and I'm having no problems at all - both
sending and receiving.

That's what they say, but still... I used a real web
based address on that for a day or two and got spam at
that web address so I put a munged address back into the
reply to as well.
