I've been riding my mountain bike to work now and then for a few years, but I fancy doing a longer tour this summer (250 miles). So I've been looking at the setup of my bike with a view to making it a little more comfortable.
One thing I can't work out is how to adjust the height of the handlebars? I'm sure raising them slightly would help over a long distance.

How is this normally done?
Thanks for any help.
If you have a quill stem, you can loosen the hex bolt and raise the stem up to the insertion line.
If you have a threadless style, you can move spacers from above to below, or get a stem with more rise.

Depends on the type of stem/HS you have. If it's a threaded HS and quill stem, loosen the quill center bolt raise the stem, paying attention to honor the minimum insertion mark and retighten. If you have the current more popular threadless setup your options are a riser bar if you don't already have one, or a stem with more rise. A steerer extender is another possibility. This all assumes you know the differnce between a threaded and threadless system. If not check www.parktool.com repair section or Sheldon Browns glossary of bike terms at www.harriscyclery.com
