With the pads that close together, is your breathing ok?
I have found that with the aero bars on my bike my breathing really suffers if they are too close together
-
i can usually breathe just swell, but i cant find any info on how close is too close for aerodynamics
-
Closer = better, so long as you can breathe OK.

The key advantage of aero bars is minimizing the 'surface area' your body presents to the wind... so as long as you hands, elbows, and arms stay inside the window created by your shoulders and torso, you're OK, use what's most comfortable. For me, I've found that I have a feeling of greater stability with my elbows and arms towards the outside of that window (when I use aero bars my upper and forearms basically form a straight line).
