  1. Hello,

I am part of a group of french scouts (18-21). We are
planning to visit the Isle of Arran during the second week
of August, for a 5-day roundtrip walk. Overall, the Island
seems beautiful, and there are certainly many places to
visit. I was wondering if there are any particular places
you would recommend ? We will not be in a hurry, and shall
go out of our way for spots or events worth seeing. Goatfell
seems to be one of these places. Any other suggestions ?

    Thanks, Denis

    Hello Denis

We did a walk over the high ground near Lochranza in
the North of the island, returning along the beach to
    the hostel.

Arran has a good bus service so going out of your way is
    easy.

Watch your navigation, Denis! I basically got lost on the
complex ridge system around Goatfell a couple of years back.
The mist was coming and going, and it was windy so I didn't
want to get my map out of its case to unfold it (how do
others deal with this?). I didn't try too hard to find out
where I was, and kept going on the principle that I was
bound to hit the coast at some point!

    Enjoy your visit!

    Regards: Jim Ford

  5. A big thank you for all these answers, they will prove very
    useful this summer.

    Have a nice day !

If you're camping, then make sure you have plenty of
industrial strength midge repellant, full body midge
    nets, etc.
