On the first Cat 2 climb of the Dauphine: 16:57 : Le peloton de tête comprend environ 35 coureurs. Tyler Hamilton est en difficulté : il est décroché d'une centaine de mètres environ et attendu par Santos Gonzalez. (he's fallen back 100 metres and is attended to by Phonak teammate Santos Gonzalez) Doesn't sound like real form trouble, mechanical?

Doesn't sound like real form trouble, mechanical?

No. I think he's a little flat. He takes a break after
Romandie and builds back up to the tour. Last year the
effect was more pronounced because he was a little
sick...but he looked like [censored] at Dauphine. I was suprised
to see him do so well on the prologue.

Santos Gonzalez was "waiting for" him, not "attending
to" him. (Could have been worse, Santos could have
"heard" Tyler...)

" Tyler Hamilton (Phonak) lost some time in the final phase
of the Col de la Croix de Chaubouret, but he got back on the
descent after dropping 20" back at one point. But the Man
from Marblehead wasn't worried with his moment of weakness.
Hamilton told Cyclingnews after Stage 2 that "It's been a
month since I've raced (at the Tour de Romandie) and with
230km yesterday, 180km today and the heat, it was hard. I
was definitely dehydrated and started cramping so there is
nothing you can do then. It usually takes me a few days to
get acclimated to the heat."

Read Cyclingnews... Tyler said he wasn't used to the heat
today (had not yet acclimated) and was a little
dehydrated. -Ken

You'd think by now he'd learn to acclimate himself before a
race. Same silly thing Armstrong did last year in the TdF.
They must be terribly distracted not to be thinking about
such things.

Worse still, he could have "extended" Tyler or even
"extinguished" him.
