After working on a flat tire for one of the Grandkids, I wanted to pass on a note of caution on to others who haven't done much with bicycles in the recent past.
When replacing tubes and using a 'Slime' filled replacement tube, the kitchen is not the place to pump the tire up even if it is cooler than the garage.
I spent over an hour inspecting the texture on the kitchen ceiling when part of tire pulled off the rim. It took a second non slime filled tube to figure out the problem....

At least two of us have posted here on similar accidents, so you are not alone. At least you didn't take it to the face.
I no longer use these. On my commuter bikes, I use Mr Tuffy- type strips. Others report good success with heavy "thorn- proof" tubes. Disclaimer: I'm not in Goathead land.
