  1. Could somone here be ever so kind as to point me in the
direction of recipies that are both heart and dianetes
friendly. I would also like to enter into communications
with anyone on an email basis with anyone who has these two
    problems as do I myself.

    With Sincere Thanks in Advance

    Hi Franz

This is one of those controversial subjects - first you have
to get someone to agree on what is "heart friendly" and what
is "diabetes friendly". My own interpretation is good food
using minimal saturated fat, no trans fats and minimal
complex carbs. But others may, and probably will, argue.

So I just modify the old favourites by minimising the sat-
fat and carbs. For example, using splenda in sweet chili
crab or similar recipes, minimising thickeners in casseroles
by reducing liquid quantities, cooling stews and casseroles
to skim surface fat then re-heating to serve etc.

Email me direct if you want a little further detail on that.

Of course, probably the most heart/diabetic friendly thing I
do is serve half what I used to :-)

You may find it useful to subscribe to alt.food.diabetic,
and also to google that ng and some of the lo-carb ngs for
    specific recipes.

Cheers, Alan, T2 d&e, Australia. Remove weight and
    carbs to email.

  3. Robert...

There are many many many recipes that fit the bill.

The trouble is, for both of those diseases, there are a
number of dietary approaches people successfully use.

If you are a low fat person, the recipes would be different
from that of a low carb person.

Which eating program are you following? And how well is it
    controlling your health?

    Let us know.

  4. Strange you should mention this, since I was just released
from the hospital after Catherization surgery. While I was
having my stay, several people visited me from various
heart, and bypass groups, as well as a diabetic dietitian.
They handed me a bundle of literature, and of course, during
my stay at the hospital, I was on a heart/diabetic sort of
diet. I was amazed at what they fed me. The literature
showed me what foods I could eat, and what to avoid. I
received a carb-counting calculator, and other things, which
I haven't taken the time to completely review. I have found
myself eating lo-cholesterol egg, a slice of toast, and a
fruit (orange juice, or banana) for breakfast.

For lunch I had a Yankee pot roast (very lean) with veggies,
a small serving of instant mashed potatoes, and gravy which
looked like it was thickened with corn starch, rather than
flour. Of course there was a fruit dessert, a slice of
    bread, and coffee.

For supper I had a battered chicken, with veggies, bread,
    dessert and coffee.

It was filling, and as I assessed what I had eaten, and my
sugar tests at the hospital, I had my blood sugars on the
low side, and well under control.

Finally, for the first time in a long time, I was able to
walk more than 10 yards without running out of breath, or
chest pains. I believe that I had walked about a mile on the
day after my procedure, and now that I am home, I regulate
my diabetes medication to my sugar readings, and maintain my
    heart medication.

I wish you the best, and I am sure that when the worst is
past, you will feel like a million bucks, and you will have
a great outlook on life. You might notice that I am not
advocating much in the line of herbs and spices, since it is
the lack of such, as well as salt, that has done me quite
    well with my weight control.

    All good wishes,

    Eddie

    Grateful to be back.
