In fact, to be sure no-one treats Byalik's words with
"indifferens", Google shows that he is requesting help in
at least four languages on five different newsgroups in
184 posts since the middle of April. And I remember the
same story under a different name a couple of months back.
No different to a gypsy beggar in the streets of Europe.
If your heart-strings are tugged, send money to the chariy
of your choice, but not to "byalik".

Hi Allan
Here I go, I never can resist playing Devil's Advocate. 😉
If the guy was genuine and put out one or two requests for
help, one or two things might happen. One, he will get some
degree of help and realise that requesting help on the
internet works and so continue to send out requests. Two,
he gets no response from his initial requests and decides
to keep trying, trying more newsgroups in the hope that
somewhere, sometime he might be lucky.
Either way he could have a genuine reason for widening his
scope, the fact that he has made a 184 posts is no
indicator as to whether he is genuine or not. The previous
similar story with a different name may well be what
inspired him, not a proof of scamming. You could have a
very genuine case of distress here, there is no reason to
believe that because he hasn't stopped that he is a fake.
I suspect that there is a very high probability that he is
sponging on the system, but I would never be sure enough to
disregard him or call him a fake, not without real
evidence.
I have jury service next month, Supreme Court, and I will
tell you now, if the evidence isn't direct and
indisputable, then I am going for acquittal. No other juror
will sway me, but I may well sway them, I regard
circumstantial as another word for possibly.
I wouldn't sleep too well if I thought that I had wronged
someone innocent in a way that permanently damaged them.
Actually, I was called before my type 2 diagnosis, so I
could probably get out of now. At the very least I would be
disrupting the court with a lot of visits to the loo.
Regards
David
David, I've watched your "devil's advocacy" of some of the
spam posters since you arrived.
I was pretty naive when I arrived on the ngs a couple of
years back. Over time, google "advanced groups search"
became invaluable.
For example, it shows me that you, although a newby to T2,
are not a newby to ngs. You've been posting to them long
before I discovered usenet. Probably longer with a previous
addy. But I don't notice any medical ones in your google
"resume"; over here, on a.s.d., m.h.d,
a.s.d.uk and a.f.d. and a couple of others I used for cancer
and arthritis, we are plagued by spammers, scammers,
kooks and trolls. You are yet to meet some of our
favourites, like doe, Mu_n etc. You've already met a
couple of the aspartame/stevia weirdos.
One reason you don't get as many on this ng is the virulent
response they get here. I don't agree with the knee-jerk
reactions of some here, which is why I check out guys like
"byalik" as best I can; but I don't like to see the leeches,
slime-bags and spivs who frequent these groups preying on
people, particularly on newbies who are often vulnerable or
credulous at a critical time in their lives.
I haven't checked - I hope you've munged your addy; if not
expect all
You mention jury service, and erring on the side of the
accused. I understand the philosophy; but while you're not
sleeping well when deliberating on their fate, consider how
well the victims of the accused are sleeping, if the accused
is guilty but exonerated. Like the mugger who assaulted my
78 yo (at the time) mother, who got a good-behaviour bond
because of his deprived back-ground. So, instead of erring
on their side, possibly try not to err at all, but make a
valid decision on the evidence. If that means acquittal, OK;
but if it doesn't, convict.
Byalik is a con, a scammer playing on the compassion of the
credulous.
You like to play devil's advocate; I don't seek
controversy, but I will let you know when I disagree with
your point of view.
But I'd still like a coffee if we're still talking on
Monday :-)
