I've been diagnosed as iron deficient and was told to
take (3) 325 mg ferrous sulphate tablets. Each contain
65 mg of elemental iron and, along with diet, I am
probably consuming about 200 mg of iron a day. That
said, I read somewhere that I should be balancing my
iron intake with copper and zinc otherwise risk iron
overload or zinc/copper depletion. Should I worry about
those factors if I am iron deficient? The recommended
RDA is 15 mg of iron, 15 mg of zinc and 2 mg of copper.
With that, should I also be consuming 200 mg of zinc and
30 mg of copper a day? Any help would be truly
    appreciated.

200 mgs of iron in your diet? What do you do? Live on
oysters and prepared fortified cereal? Have you recently
adjusted your diet to provide this intake of iron? Why are
you iron deficient? Crohn's disease? An occult blood loss
    from a GI ulcer?

That's exactly what I've been eating. I had been vegan for
the past year and that lead to the supposed iron deficiency.
The initial diagnosis was made due to my low MCV. However, a
second opinion led to follow-up CBC which showed low MCV,
high RBC and high Ferritin. That doc told me I had
thalassemia and to stay away from iron. Any ideas???

Get an iron level test, this is all you need to know if iron
supplementation is needed in any form, stop guessing and
self medicating on a guess about such a simple status to
    determine.
