Need computer magnet for flat spokes !

It may not LOOK pretty, but I bet it would stick well and be
waterproof. It's a thought...

I took the standard round spoke magnet that has a
perpendicular slot with a screw to hold it in place and used
a small jewelers file to elongate a slot for the blade
spoke. If you are trying to attach it to a carbon wheel such
as a Tri-spoke then use a small amount of shoe goo and just
stick it on with that or the hot glue trick. Both work well.
You can purchase double sided tape used for auto molding and
utilize a small piece of that but I prefer the Shoe Goo.
Shoe Goo looks great if you only use a very small portion
under the magnet of your choice.

I found the tiny super magnets found inside old computer
hard drives to work perfectly. They are tiny, powerful,
light in weight and have almost no wind resistance do to
their size. The one I use is less than 1/16 inch thick and
3/8 inch in diameter. It is hardly noticeable on a Tri-
Spoke wheel.

I had the same problem. I took a drill and widened the spoke
hole of the magnet. It works just fine. Use a drill bit
thats smaller than the current hole, just work it side to
side to widen.

I purchased a set of Mavic Ksyrium wheels in 2002 and they
came with a magnet specifically for the wide bladed
spokes(packed in the bag with the spoke wrench & owners
manual). I know that Cateye also makes a spoke magnet that
works perfectly on the bladed spokes(although the Mavic
version is a bit cleaner aerowise. Good luck~ DIG

Not directly related, but for spinergy X wheels which have
just 4 wide spokes on a side, I used velcro to mount the
magnet to one arm of the "X".

I know that cateye wireless comps. come with magnets for
bladed spokes. I would be shocked if your local bike shop
can't get you one, especially if that shop specializes in
road bikes. If your local shop doesn't specialize in road
bikes, find the closest shop that does.

I find almost nothing more frustrating than the looks on the
faces of the kids working at my local shop (bmx and mtn
bikers) when I walk in with a question. You;d think I was
speaking a different language.

I'm using the Cateye magnet on my blade spokes, and it fit fine. You can get your LBS to order one if they don't have it in stock as well as Mavic's offering.

I am aware of that magnet. It will not fit the Ksyrium SSC
SL spoke ! I know because I have tried it.

I have the exact same wheels. If you've lost the Mavic
magnet try getting some craft magnet tape - used to make
fridge magnets etc and just cut a small piece and stick it
on to the blade - it worked for me. You may want to add a
drop or two of some extra sticky stuff just to make sure.

get a little flat magnet at a hardware store. I found one
about 3/16 x
1/2 and hot-glue it right to the spoke. I put some glue
"wrapped" around the back of the spoke, and it hasn't
moved at all after a couple seasons.
