Hello, I'd like to install a Cateye MITY 8 CC MT400 cyclocomputer on my Tidal Wave 700C/451. The front tire is a 25-451 (20 X 1).
On the instruction manual of the cyclocomputer, there is no such tire circumference size. The nearest sizes are as follow: 18 X 1.50 setting is 134 L CM 18 X 1.75 settiing is 135 L CM 20 X 1.75 setting is 152 L CM 20 X 1.3/8 setting is 162 L CM
So how does one calculate the setting to use for tire size 25-451 (20 X 1) please?

By the way, the Cateye MITY 8 cable is way too short. It's stretched really taut on my ASS bent.

Find a flat sidewalk, driveway, or long hallway with a hard surfaced floor. Put a gob of mustard, ketchup, paint or other appropriate gooey substance on the ground. Sit on the bike and roll over the gob of goo, while maintaining a straight line (pushing the ground with one's feet usually works best here). Measure the distance between spots of goo.
Would that measurement be ,edge to edge, or center to center, of the gob of goo? If the gob was too large it would throw of the measurement so use a small gob of goo. Look on the labels of jars of goo to see if they are suitable for that purpose and make sure it is edible goo,an animal may decide to eat it off the sidewalk and you don't want to be on the wrong side of the Animal Rights People! I suggest using multiple trials and averaging the results.

What type of animal would do that - a fox maybe? 😉
Ketchup would be a safe choice, since it is a vegetable.
Don't listen to these guys. If you'd like to come on the newsgroup and claim you rode your favorite ride at a 20mph pace then adjust the wheel circumference setting by the appropriate correction. In other words, if you ride the course at 15 mph according to your present setting then multiply the present circumference by 4/3rds (20/15). That'll put you at 20 mph.

Too much Ben and Tom. Its been a while since you guys got involved in your repartee. It suggests that each of you have too much time on your hands but we are all the better for it. One question, should the viscosity of the goo be considered? If you have a thin lightweight tire should you use goo lite?
IMHO, the important criterium is evaporation rate. If you're quick with the tape measure, for instance, you could use spit, which has certain advantages. If you get busy after you measure and set the computer (like going for a ride) and forget to clean up your goo, your wife will probably give you a ration, but with spit, the evidence disappears. And you don't have to go looking for some spit.
