Slipping Grips

Hairspray

Remove your grips, spray with hairspray and replace. They should slide on nice and easy while the hairspray is wet but then they will stick until you need to remove them and then you just cut them off to fit new ones or squirt WD40 under them to move them

yes the ol' hairspray is the trick. remember however that this will only work if the grips were not stretched whe removing the first time. if you still experience any slip after using hairspray or even spray paint, as this can have better grip properties, you'll need new grips.

For real? Spray paint?? It seems to me that you would have to apply a lot of paint to get the bar 'wet', then act very quickly to install grips before it dries. But then, I have never tried...

The answer is cable ties and an air compressor. You want the compressor to remove and install the grips, and to dry them out. The ties are to keep the water out. Put two ties at the ends of each grip and there pretty much watertight. I’ve been riding in a hell of a lot of hard rain and mud and I’ve never had to a problem with them since I put the ties on.

Right,..... if you want to change your Bar too, each time you have to take your gripps off....???😕

Before anyone says it I know this thread is 8 years old but I'm sure I'm not alone in needing this info. My problem was that silicon specialized grips were slipping around the powder coated alu bar. Hairspray didn't work. The problem is the silicon to polyester powder coat friction relationship being very low. I put a layer of electrical tape on the bars first, then the grips over the top. Stuck solid straight away and still good after two weeks with some rain. Hope this is useful to someone. Chris.

Nope, not really; a 2-second spray on the bar, a quick spritz or two inside the grips, slide them on, position them, and walk away til the next day.

Have to do that @ work sometimes, with the [censored] I have to build.
