  1. My HMO now covers Mevacor (Lovastatin) while I have been
using the much more expensive Zocor (Simvastatin), which is
    still not covered.

Is there a substantial difference in efficaciousness between
Zocor vs Mevacor? I am trying to reduce my high drug costs
    for Zocor.

    Thanks for any input

    There can be.

    That's understandable.

See if your HMO covers Lipitor (atorvastatin). Like
simvastatin, it is still under patent, but the HMOs
sometimes decide to pay for one of an expensive class of
medications and not the other if they negotiate certain
deals with suppliers. (mine covers atorvastatin but not
    simvastatin)

I'm not an expert but from reading it appears the efficacy
of atorvastatin would be more on par with simvastatin and
    higher than lovastatin.
