    Hi All,

I¹m also trying to develop some kind of kick, it is really
weird that I seem to have the exact same problem as the
other guy. I also go nowhere when I kick. My ³normal² kick
is sort of like a frog (I¹m kinda bow-legged). My goal is to
be able to do the 500-yd swim for the Navy¹s physical
readiness test completely using a crawl stroke. The way I
did It last time I completed it in 10:53, using no flip
turns and side, breast, crawl, and back strokes.

My problem is that when I crawl, I feel like I have to
    ³sprint² just to stay afloat.

Any advice appreciated, but what I¹d really like is to get
some resources to help myself. Book and web recommendations
would be most welcome. I just don¹t want to keep practicing
    bad habits.

    Thanks in advance! Mark

The best advice I can give you is to hire a coach...
sorry... an instructor, which you can probably do at the
local YMCA. You can probably enroll in an adult swimming
class there, but it might be worth your while to pay for a
few private lessons, given that the outcome is important for
you Navy-wise. But I would think the Navy would have
    instructors for swimming.

The problem when you try to teach yourself and you have
the problems you describe, you really need someone to see
    you swimming.
