  1. I want to buy a spare pair of wheels to keep shod with
    slicks, for when I use my mountain bike on pure roads. The
    current wheels are Hope XC hubs, Mavic 223 Rims, discs. (a)
    Do I need wheels which cost as much? Or would something
    cheaper do as well for light use. (b) Should I consider
    narrower wheels?

    Mavic X618 rim with Shimano LX hub provides good value, I
    reckon -- a fair compromise between cost, weight, strength
    and durability. I got my brother these for road use with
    Schwalbe City Jet 1.5 tyres. Merlin Cycles' price and
    quality is excellent; tyres from Wiggle.
