They've got to be comfortable, and have nice padding for the palms so they don't go numb on long rides.

Price is a somewhat important factor for me, but if I found gloves that were just PERFECT (e.g. a winter glove that was as comfortable as a summer 'half-glove'😉 I wouldn't think twice about shelling extra.

As for advice, I generally look at (and post at) web forums, do web searches for reviews, etc. and also drop by the LBS and ask for their thoughts on what is good..

personaly i think for a good pair of (mountain biking) cycling gloves you need to be paying £20-£30

I paid about $35 AUD (<£15) for a pair of Lake mtb gloves. They are comfy with gel padding, have snot rags and most importantly, they are still fully functional after 3+ years of LOTS of use - mtb, road and commuting.

Sure, sell $60-90 gloves that wear out after a season, but I wont be buying them :P

I've got the FOX Tahoe half finger glove. Good padding on the palm and ventalation on top. Only cost me AU$20 and works a treat, only had them 'bout 6weeks though so not sure how long it'll last.

As long as they are comfortable (especially around the finger and wrist edges I find) I think you've got a winner.
