A big thankyou to Ben @ Kinetics. A friend and I turned up
this afternoon with the intention of looking at the SRAM
DualDrive (nee 3x7) and some "cool stuff".
I was given a Spirit to ride, which was fitted with the
DualDrive and Ben was happy to answer questions on
configuration and use with non- standard stuff such as bar
end shifters.
We then played with a Kettweisel for the best part of two
hours. He seemed to have no objection to letting us rocket
around the estate while getting the hang of the "lock one
wheel, lean into the corner and take the bends at 25"
cornering technique and was more than happy to talk bikes
(and trikes) with whichever of us wasn't currently riding.
On the bright side, I did provide some amusement to Ben and
some others in the area, by falling off a KMX which he was
playing with outside the shop. I fluffed a rear wheel lock,
panicked, leant the wrong way and tipped the bike. No major
damage, but sitting will probably be uncomfortable until
tomorrow! ;-)
While the plan to build the recumbent bike is still on-
track, the seat design will now probably draw heavily from
the Kettweisel, and after initial tests to ensure that it
works, I suspect a DualDrive will be in order (Possibly even
with twistgrip having seen that it's possible to use them
with USS).
My friend is suggesting that if the bike is successful then
a recumbent trike should be soon to follow. Now all I need
to consider is where the hell I'd keep these things!
So thanks again Ben. A fantastic (And useful)
afternoon was had.
