at least that is what I have seen. Ask to see the boxes... if they still have them.

I took them out of the box. They are labeled SL and have the cut outs on the rim which the Elites do not have. 2003 model was black - 2004 went silver. So still unanswered. Someone out there know??

Call Mavic, they are very busy, but will take the time to talk to you. Be careful, I've had bike shops try to pull some unethical and slimy things in the past. Hope things work out well. Greysky

The 2004 SL's only come in silver. They are also lighter (different hubs). It sounds like your LBS doesn't know the difference. The black spoked wheels most likely are New Old Stock Closeouts. They are still great wheels but most likely your LBS is trying to get one by you (probably out of ignorance).

I run a set of 2003 Ksyrium SSC SLs they only come in black. The 2004 issues are diffrent, with a lighter hubs and only come in silver. As for your LBS, you can verify the paper work dates in the box and check the wheel #s to see they match the owner's manual. There is a price diffrence between the the two wheel sets, as much as $75. I have to agree with one of the other members, you LBS is pulling on your chain...😄

Just to echo what has already been said; I have two sets of the 2003 models and one set of the 2004s. The 2003s are black with silver stripes while the 2004s are just silver with black "ksyrium" lettering. Personally, I like the 2003 models better from an asthetic point of view. Hopefully, Mavic will return to a mostly black wheel in the upcoming years.

Ditto. The LBS guys are either ignorant regarding Mavic road wheels, or they're pulling your leg. The '04 model is unmistakably, undeniably silver with a little black trim.

If these are SLs for sure, the LBS is selling older stock as new stuff -- or a distributor they deal with is doing the same the them (hence the "they just came in" line). Tell them you're mad as hell, and you're not going to take it anymore!
