Bad news : The flysheet zip failed eventually, and the two top clips holding the inner onto the larger pole opened up in the heat (up to 42C) and came off the pole, but it was still liveable in.
Good news : Took it back to Argos to complain about the zip, and after the assistant opened it up to inspect the zip, scattering the dust of Africa over the desk, she replaced it with a brand new one with no quibble at all.

Is that the record for the furthest an APA has travelled, I wonder? 'Adrian's Favourite Elephant' looked a little too close for comfort (unless you were using a telephoto lens?), ears flapping. Doesn't that mean he's not very happy or ready to charge? The 'Elephant Game' looked fun ;o)

It can also mean (and in this case, did) that he's damned hot and wants to cool down - an elephant's ears are bloody big radiators!

The animal that kills the most people in Africa is the Hippo which is a fraction of what the mighty mosquito kills. The Elephant is quite a docile creature and the only problems are a Bull in musk or getting between a female and her baby. The Hippo is just plain mean.

Yup, I agree. When researching my trip, I came across a statement saying that elephants killed most people, and was surprised and doubtful about it, but looked no further. I have now, and hippos are numero uno.
By the way, I noticed that Aids now kills more people in Africa than malaria.

As well as hippos the other contender that I'm sure I've heard some authorities state as being the meanest son of a [censored] in people killing terms is the water buffalo.

Yes here in SA 40,000 new cases a month. God knows how many cases on the whole continent. In lots of areas the death rate now exceeds the birth rate for the first time since records have been kept. Add Aids, to Maleria and malnutrician and it's easy to see why life expectency on this continent is so short. It's still a great place for nature I am sure not many hikers see the diversity of fauna on their weekly hikes that I do. Richard a

The Cape buffalo is the most feared of all big game to hunters, if wounded it's definitely a him or me situation. Made famous by Robert Ruak the hunter and author.
