I'm not sure about labelling regulations in teh US and what is required but where "Cool Max" is a recognized brand of FABRIC, it's to the advantage of the clothing manufacturers to make sure potential customers have that information. I've bought my husband several t-shirts style jerseys at a Canadian dept store. It's their in-house brand name and all the jerseys were marked "Cool Max" fabric.

What Wal-Mart sells is the Dri-Star fabric shirts, the brand
is Starter.

Don't bother with the Starter shirts that have a zipper and
don't say Dri-Star (but are still polyester). I bought a
couple of those and they're not good for moisture wicking,
plus they snag and run very easily.

The Dri-Star shirts can snag on velcro too, but they'll just
"pill" rather than running.

My recollection is that folks were buying a "DryStar"
product made by Starter. It is not a coolmax product, but
has a similar wicking fabric.

Do yourself a favor and visit Campmor.com they will have
real Coolmax as well as DuoFold (my pref) T's for even less
money than the Starter stuff. They are more "cottony"
feeling. I just paid $6.99 for short sleeve and 7.99 for
long sleeve. I have 2 of the starter shirts (I started that
first thread years ago!) and never touch them anymore.
(though they work just fine)

Thanks to Victor Kan,Nanc and MLB for the advice. I feel
competent to shop now.

I'd second that. I have a number of Duofold coolmax and
hydroduct shirts and they work pretty well too. They also
sell them cheap at sierratradingpost.com.

I still like the Starter Dri-Star shirts too. They're
thicker and keep you a little warmer than the coolmax
stuff does.

Hey Tom, try the Adidas store at the Prime Outlets mall at
I-4 and I Drive in Mickeytown next time you are over there.
They call their wicking stuff "climacool" and I find shirts
and shorts there all the time from $5-15.

I have a couple of the Starter shirts and my complaints are
I hate the tight neck and they are real shiny/glossy. Beats
cotton T shirts, tho.

Hey Tom,

Like everyone said, those shirts are Starter Dri-star. I
like them so much I have 10 of them. Cycling, sailing,
working, or just hanging out, they are far far better than
cotton shirts for Florida. With our humid days fast
approaching, they are even more awesome. And it's no
wonder you didn't see them when you looked last year.
Walmart here pulls them by summer and puts out the long-
sleeve version instead.

am going to have to check out Campmor tonight. I need more
shirts :-)

Oh, my brother-in-law had a V-neck Dri-star. So no tight
collar problem, and good looking too.

$10 during a sale. You can't beat the quality and the price
is good, even after prorating freight in.

I don't have any experience buying from the website, I think
the best sales are in the mailed catalog. Someonne correct
me if I'm wrong.

You can find the same prices online. Sometimes have to check
a couple different "bargain" areas. Also many of the BEST
bargains are limited sizes and colors, close outs. Have
ordered many times. Never a problem, always fast, cheap
shipping. Love em 🙂

I'm not kidding when I say these wickable fabrics have
changed my life! As a SWEATER, who is hot all the time,
they've just been a miracle. I can be comfortable in much
hotter, muggier weather when wearing them than any other
fabric. Used to be a dedicated cotton guy, now I can't stand
them if it's at all hot out. I wear them to work and under
dress shirts if I have to dress up. The underwear is NICE
too if you ever get a hot crotch. 🙂
