I am going from Geneva to Rome this summer, carrying two bikes and two hard bike cases. Any suggestions on car/van rentals to accommodate this? There will be three people in the vehicle. Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed!

I the US you can make arrangements with Hertz for something that would work. You need to arrange far in advance and they just won't do it in some locations.
Recreational areas ... like Denver, CO has much better situations.
We did this arrangement via Hertz in Portland, Maine.
We arrived very late at night and they stayed open and had someone on hand to help us.
