  1. Just tried to hit the BROL site and got the messahe below.
bill g "This domain name has been suspended for exceeding
the monthly bandwidth quota. The site will be automatically
turned on again on the first day of next month.

If you are the owner of this website, you can order more
    bandwidth here.

As the owner of a successful Website, it may be time to
upgrade to one of Globat's dedicated server solutions.
Please call 1-877-2GLOBAT for more information."

  2. This has happened a couple of times recently. I imagine
Brian will have to start charging for access to his site.

I'm not speaking for Bryan on this matter, but I wouldn't
jump to such a conclusion based just on this event. The
server/ISP was changed recently, and apparently there
were some "automatic" shut-off systems if the daily
traffic went beyond a certain point, as well as the
monthly. The daily "switch" was dealt with, and so will
this one. On the message board, it is pointed out that
they just need to wait until the actual office of the
provider opens, which will be (if I remember correctly)
noon, Eastern Standard Time. If anything, this shows just
how popular 'Bentrider Online has become.

That's good news indeed that BROL is back as I would not
want all those jackasses who have fled ARBR to come back
here. It is good riddance to the lot of them. They can't

I'm not going to speak for everyone who has left, but I
do think you're mistaken. It's not "controversy" that
caused them to leave - it was more the constant, petty
bickering, the insults, the racist, ethnic and religious

I understand on BROL all messages have to past muster with a

Why do all the idiots top post?

But the amen chorus is always welcome here on ARBR where
they can post their assents to one idiocy after another. Mr.
Varney would no doubt like to have his own web site where he
could control what gets said and what doesn't get said. Why
the hell doesn't he (and you too Doug Huffman) stay on BROL
where you belong. There you can be supervised like children
and not have to abide the likes of me.

These types of people are profoundly anti-democratic and are
nothing but frustrated dictators and tyrants who would like
to control the rest of us. But I am here to deny them that
pleasure and to defend freedom of speech unmediated by the
likes of Varney. Thank God for Usenet and ARBR! And screw
BROL all the way to hell and back!

These g.d. liberals can post their obscenities on BROL all
    they want because
Mr. Ball is sympathetic to their cause but as long as I am
on ARBR that sort of rot will not go unchallenged here.

That is not strictly true. In a truly moderated newsgroup,
message board, or listserve, messages are not posted until
approved by a moderator (similar to writing a letter to a
newspaper or magazine and having the editor approve it for
publication). This type of moderation is rare on the
Internet due to the workload involved.

On the BROL message boards, messages are not pre-
approved, but actions such as "locking" threads,
suspending posting privileges, and deleting threads or
    postings occur after the fact.

Mr. Sherman is the expert on all of this as far as I am
concerned and so I stand corrected.

In other words, Mr. Ball, whose web site (bulletin board) it
is, can decide after the fact whether or not to bar anyone
from further posts. This seems fair to me and I have no
objection to it. Hell, if I was running my own message
board, that is the way I would do it too. Still, I sometimes
wonder how long I would last on BROL.

But bulletin boards do not interest me. I like the give and
play of argument to and fro in more or less real time. That
is the best way in the world to learn anything - provided
that everyone posting is not an idiot. If someone is
committed to a position passionately and is willing to argue
it, I can respect that no matter how much I might disagree.
And if I didn't respect all those with whom I am
disagreeing, I would be long gone from ARBR.

Give it up, Ed. No one's buying this lame "political"
excuse you keep pulling out of the stable. Insults,
vulgarity and childish behavior are not, sadly,
restricted to just politics. You have regularly insulted
and used words that should rarely come out of the mouth -
or keyboard - of an adult. And you seemingly try to
justify it on some sort of political grounds, some sort
of liberal vs. conservative thing. It's not. It's not
even a freedom of speech issue - everyone knows that, on
an unmoderated newsgroup, you can say just about anything
you want. But does that "freedom" mean you should engage
in such juvenile behavior? No. Much more is expected from
an adult. Continue to pretend that you're something
you're not, Ed. Continue to prattle on about this
"liberal hate monger and Bush basher" nonsense. But
understand this: no one is buying it. Everyone knows that
you, for some perverse reason, love to be crude,
obnoxious and the most pathetic boor possible. Just why
is anyone's guess. Take responsibility for your own
actions, and don't keep claiming it's all because of
something that someone else said. But if you want to say
it's because you're a Bush Republican, that somehow what
you're doing is a reflection of what Bush and his
supporters believe and are like, feel free to continue
doing so. I would guess that the Democrats just wish you
    had a bigger sandbox.

Mr. Ball has stated previously on this forum that he did not

and Bush bashing that went on here before I showed up. I
am assuming that that is the way he runs BROL. I have
never looked at BROL nor do I ever intend to because of
his liberal biases and prejudiced viewpoints. He can not
possibly be fair and balanced. I have no doubt
whatsoever that one cannot say what ever one wants on a
moderated newsgroup. Mr. Ball will be there to exclude
you if he does not like either the substance or the
style of what he hears. Moderated newsgroups are for
    children and juveniles.

You say it is not a freedom of speech issue. It most
certainly is! Why should I tip-toe around issues with polite
language when others were calling Bush a [censored] and a
[censored]? Screw that! If you call Bush a [censored], then I am
going to call you a [censored] too and I will leave poor
Senator Kerry out of it. Where the hell were you when all
this was going on over a year ago? Like all liberals you
were permanently out to lunch when what you were hearing was
music to your ears. If you want to know what you liberals
looked like to me back then, think Michael Moore and you
have got it. What piece of scurrilous scum he is!

ARBR is a much better place than it was a year ago largely
because I do not let these liberals rule here like they used
to. I do not interfere with the recumbent on topic posting,
but I am constantly cruising this forum like a shark for any
off topic posting which I regard as beyond the fringe.

Instead of deploring what I do, you should be grateful that
I am keeping the ocean of ARBR cleansed of pollutants and
dead, rotting organic matter. I should be getting awards and
being acclaimed for performing well beyond the human norm.
But no man is a profit in his own country. I will only be
missed when I am no longer here and the group has reverted
to the pig sty from which I rescued it.

    certainly is!

No, it is not. It is a matter of civility. It is one
thing to disagree, it is another to be disagreeable.

    Why

should I tip-toe around issues with polite language when
others were calling Bush a [censored] and a [censored]? Screw
that! If you call Bush a [censored], then I am going to
call you a [censored] too and I will leave poor Senator
    Kerry out of it.

So someone thinks Bush is a [censored] - so what? Why do you
    feel the
need to then claim that *they* are [censored] as well? And
    how does this

of "polite language", so much as an excuse to be uncivilized
    and vulgar.

ARBR is a much better place than it was a year ago largely
because I do not let these liberals rule here like they
    used to.

No one is buying this "liberal" vs. "conservative"
excuse. Unless, of course, you believe it is a hallmark
of conservatism to attack someone's race, religion or
    ethnic background.

But no man is a profit in his own country. I will only be
missed when I am no longer here and the group has reverted
to the pig sty from which I rescued it.

You may be right on both counts. I suspect that the group
will revert to the "pig sty" of relative civility when
    you are gone.
