this might be a little better than minoxodil- Finasteride
(info below, ask your doctor) also, there is something
around called beta sitosterol. it is a phytosterol found in
fruits and vegetables. Some studies have shown this
phytosterol to help alot with prostrate problems in men as
well as loweing cholesterol levels. well, it seems there is
a growing opinion that beta sitosterol can also help with
hair loss because it has a DHT blocking action. it's still
controversial and while there are some sites on the web
charging up to $125 buck for "remedies" containing
betasitosterol, you can purchase it for about $12.00 at a
number of sites or I would guess your local health food
store. good luck to you.
Finasteride (PropeciaT) Finasteride, produced by Merck and
Company under the name Propecia, was approved by the FDA in
December 1997, as a treatment for male pattern baldness. It
is the first drug available in pill form for the treatment
of baldness.
In men with mild to moderate hair loss, clinical trials
showed that 83 percent of the male patients had kept their
hair or grown more after one year of treatment. Propecia
(finasteride) works by blocking an enzyme called 5-alpha
reductase, which is responsible for the formation of
dihydrotestosterone in a man's body. The enzyme converts
testosterone to DHT (dihydrotestosterone). It is believed
that DHT is a key factor in male pattern hair loss, and
finasteride decreases the concentration of DHT in a man's
scalp. Finasteride is available by prescription only

Quoted message said:I am 32 years old and I am considering the use of
Minoxidil. My hairline is fine in the center of my
forehead, but just behind that, my hair is thinning. Is
Minoxidil appropriate for me to try? If not, do you have
any other suggestings? (Fortunately, my hair is not yet
bad enough to even consider a transplant).
Thanks for your thoughts...
