So. Who else got sunburnt yesterday. Sigh. I even had a
tube of factor 30 in my jersey pocket. D'oh!

Not me, no cycling though, cut the grass then walked to
Morrisons. Used my hat and my sunblock.

Low to mid 20's and everyone's getting burnt! I dread
to think what everyone's going to be like when (if) it
    gets warm!

Load of wusses. I spent the morning out on the boat, no hat,
no sunblock, no ill effects. Glorious.

Nope, not I. But I've got an alarming crop of insect bites,

Hmmm. When I lived in central Italy, where summer temps
(both average and peak) are about 10 degrees higher than
here, it was just different. I never even felt tempted to
    ride bareback in that.

Probably fine. It may be hotter later in the year, but you
are much more likely to get burnt now.

    The element of surprise.

    Watch out for buses!

I must look the part or the prat as I originally typed,
as I went into Boots the Chemist today and the woman
behind the counter asked if I was in "the race"
    yesterday. Wahoo!

She was probably wondering when you'd finish.

    Lack of tan + this

"The peak daily ultraviolet radiation level changes over the
year. The strongest being at the Summer solstice (21st June)
and the weakest at the Winter solstice (21st December)."
    (weatheronline.co.ukwf270603.htm)

So in August, although it's hot, you are less likely to get
burned, even ignoring the tan you may or may not have my
then. The converse is that UV strength is high in May even
without high temps. Hence my sunburn.

Yes, the Sun is higher in the sky up until 21 JUN. Imagine a
torch; hold it so it is facing down on a bit of card. The
beam will be a perfect circle - now hold it at an angle and
the same beam is now spread out in a large ellipse. The same
energy that was concentrated into a small circle when
overhead is now spread out over a larger area and the same
thing happens with the sun. The higher it is in the sky, the
more energy per unit area is hitting your skin.

Actually the summer solstice this year is 20 JUN 04.

I didn't put any sunblock on and didn't get burnt in the
garden. But that's not because I'm not a wuss, it's because
I've got skin that tans fairly easily.

Survived the weekend okay thanks to SPF30 and a hat. I am
indeed a Wuss, and burn easily. The Arran ferry had quite a
selection of people who'd taken a bit less care than me and
    were doing fine lobster impersonations.
