What's this? Finishing second on a shallow mountain top finish? Excellent job from someone who would have been considered a sprinter until recently. He's doing a serious job trying to convert himself into a GC man, but first he has to not collapse after the finish.
And how about that Cunego? Takes over the pink for a while, but faces a tougher battle with the champagne bottle than he does with any of his competitors.

That is a pretty impressive ride for him. The climb is long and not too steep, but the section of 10% grade early on must have been tough for him. The fact that there were only 14 guys within 16 seconds (then bigger gaps on back) does seem to indicate that the climb was somewhat selective.

That's gotta be a little embarrassing...

That was a great ride. In the US, on OLN, I don't think that they mentioned his name at all during the race. I was wondering who that was coming across the line from his team and was shocked that it was him.

The german announcers on Eurosport mentioned him a few times on the climb, and again during the finish, but since I forgot to have a coffee yesterday and was nursing a nasty headache my fluency in german wasn't what it was supposed to be and I kept asking myself, "Why are they talking about McGee?". It wasn't until they showed him lying on the ground and replayed the finish in slo-mo did I understand.

Those shallow summit finishes are super television! So cool how they flew around the switchbacks.

That really was spectacular. But I, and the racers obviously, kept getting annoyed at the motorcycles that seemed to often be in the way. It is obviously tough to be close for the all important camera work, but a fly on the wall at the same time.
