Hi Ann,

There is a bridge that has collapsed causing a slight
diversion (see report below) Apart from that remember
to cross the ones on the walk. there are many bridges
to cross. In order the ones I recall are Bolton Priory
Bridge (or stepping stones), Pavilion Wooden Bridge
near the entrance to the Strid, Barden Bridge, Hebden
Suspension Bridge, Burnsall Bridge, Kettlewell Bridge,
Hubberholme Bridge, Deepdale Bridge, Beckermonds
Bridge, a little wooden bridge just before the
Ribblehead Viaduct, Scale Gill Bridge, Cow Dub Bridge,
Ewegales Bridge, a footbridge near Swarthwaite, Church
Bridge Dent, footbridge at Ellers, Millthrop Bridge,
Crook of Lune Bridge, footbridge at Grayrigg Foot,
Sprint Bridge and Bowston Bridge. It's then a dry walk
to Windermere. Did the walk last year. It's fantastic

Bridge over River Mint Tuesday 06 April 2004 Early in
2004 news was received that the bridge used by the
Dales Way over the River Mint near Shaw End had been
demolished by a flood. The relevant Authority is being
urged to reinstate it, but it could be some while
before they are able to do this. In the meantime it is
not normally possible to ford the river. An
alternative route on existing rights of way can,
luckily, be used. This lies to the north of the
missing bridge.This crosses Patton Bridge and can be
seen easily on Outdoor Leisure map OL7.

Approaching from the east and after crossing the A685,
the Dales Way is followed across the valley below
Thursgill. The route then makes its way over a rise
and joins a field track over the crest of this.
Shortly, where the Dales Way cuts down through a
gateway across an open field towards the River Mint,
continue on the field track making its way north to a
farm. Turn left (west) on the access track duly
passing Haveriggs and joining a lane. Turning left on
this one crosses Patton Bridge and after a rise beyond
can regain the Dales Way where it crosses the lane.

Coming from the west one must leave the Dales Way when
joining the road after Biglands. Turn north across
Patton Bridge and fairly shortly head off east on a
farm access road passing Haveriggs. Continue east on
this till reaching another farm.. Turn south through
the farm buildings on a right of way that rejoins the
Dales Way not far to the east of the missing bridge.
