I know this is off topic but there is such a wealth of information here on GPS use I couldn't help myself. I was wondering if there is a USB cable that powers and transmits data between an Etrex Vista and a laptop. I did not see one on Garmins web page but thought I had heard of one once. I know I can use the car adapter 12 volt data/power cable and a USB to RS232 converter but I would like to simplify this if possible. Any Ideas?

You can get USB/Serial adaptors indeed I link my GPS to my Mac with one. You may well need a decent driver but these tend to come with the link. The market leaders are Keyspan. You'll probably have to buy over the net - I managed to find one via. Amazon.

I can't say I have ever heard of one. One problem would be that the 5V of the USB would need to be regulated down to 3V for the eTrex so it is not trivial to produce such a cable.
