  1. Hi, my father had a glucose tolerence test before he died,
and the results seemed to be kind of strange. I have now
started to wonder what they mean. This is from several years
ago, but I would be most curious if any bona-fide
endocrinologists could tell me what the deal was.

After fasting for 8 hours, his blood sugar was 95. He then
was given 75grams of sugar water. Within ten minutes, his
blood sugar was 145...within a total of 25 minutes, his
blood sugar was 180! Then, within a total of one hour 25
minutes, it was back down to 85. All this within one hour,
15 minutes. When he did the test with 100g of sugar water,
the results were even more strange.

Could anyone comment on this? Its no big deal, but I would
like to know what this meant.

    See

Your father would be diagnosed as "not-diabetic" by most
docs but also could be warned that he seems to be on the
path to Diabetes since his Phase I insulin response is a bit
    deficient.

Er. . .most if not all of the regular posters to these
newsgroups would love to have a set of results like that
from a Glucose Tolerance Test .

It means he was not diabetic and metabolizes sugar in world
    class fashion (a good thangg).

  4. I'm no expert, but his results don't sound that strange to
me. His system overshoots then crashes. My glucose tolerance
was similar - I peaked at 45 minutes at 200, then by two
hours I had crashed to 65 - below my initial reading of 90.

Yep, and I still do, just like Brad, anytime I'm silly
enough to eat something to spike me that high.

    Which isn't very often nowadays.
