year. I found lots of other stuff too, but I don't
remember what.
I find too much stuff on my weekend rides.
Two weekends ago it was "junk day" in the 'hood. This is
where people are permitted to put out large volume junk that
the garbage men will not normally take. This includes
appliances, furniture, etc. and bicycles. I must have seen
100 discarded bikes in the course of a 3 hour ride without
even trying. The vast majority of these were Schwinns,
Huffys, Murrays, Infinitys, Dunlops, Mongooses etc. that saw
75 miles before they fell apart and then transformed into
rust, but there were a few worthwhile finds. Anyway, there
were so many bikes that my pal Rob and I had to split up to
divide and conquer.
I found and marked out 3 bikes for recovery. One was an
Apollo road bike frame that is surprisingly nice. I normally
pass by Nishiki's, Norco's, Apollo's etc. but it had Shimano
600 components and was made from Tange Champion tubing. So I
had to rescue it. Very light frame with nice cast dropouts.
2 of the bikes were older but decent quality mountain
bikes. One of them was almost complete, and in excellent
condition. I'll be giving this one away to someone needy at
work this week.
Rob did well: he found a complete late 80's Cramerotti road
bike in his size in the high-rent area. It was all Columbus
SLX tubing, with all Campagnolo components. Chorus crankset,
Record brakes, and nice wheels with Record hubs. The
homeowner had also conveniently left a spare pair of
Campagnolo wheels on the curb. The wheels had Conti Sprinter
tubulars is good shape.
BTW: Is a "Rene Herse" a good bike?
Unfortunately my garage has too many bikes again.
