My bike got a puncture and I had to remove the rear wheel to replace the inner tube. When I had remounted it and reset the brakes and gears I ran it on the bike rack to see if all was ok, it wasn't. When I let it coast I notice a slight oscillation in the rear cog assembly. It seems to move about 1/8 inch left to right as the wheel coasts. The wheel itself seems to be true and also the axle appears to be straight. anyone know what might cause this and how I correct it??

Sounds like you did NOT put the wheel back on straight. Loosen the quick release, then while putting pressure on the rear wheel, by pushing on the saddle for example, engage the quick release back. Hope this is all your problem...

They just do this, can't tell ya why, but its OK. Grab a buddies bike, pick up the back wheel, and give it a spin. More than likely his cogs will wobble back and forth too.

Are you sure it's not the ramped teeth on the cogs that appear to make it wobble? The teeth aren't cut straight and true; they 'wander' from left to right and back to help pick up the chain. If you're just looking at the teeth, it will look like a wobble. You need to look at the cog below the teeth to tell if it's wobbling.

You don't. The wobble you noticed is called "Bearing Precession'" and it normal. You probably just hadn't noticed it before. Higher quality freewheels and freehubs show less precession, but it is still there. Even high quality navigation gyroscopes have some precession.
