Yup, they've messed up their system a while back.
Personally, I think that they've probably cut back on
developers, so can't do anything about it.

It provides a different service. I was just pointing out a
current quirk in multimap at the moment.

Check whether they are offering you two places with similar
names, and choose the one you want (I found that they have
an error when that happens).

one of the mapping sites and knit them into a strip map for
a cycling route.

You can copy the image address when you are where you
want to be:

but this doesn't really provide the same functionality as
multimap and streetmap.

Actually, that is quite a pain - I also use
www.streetmap.co.uk - it's just a bit more difficult to
get the OS maps - and I think their OS maps are of about
the same vintage as the multimap ones. The major
advantage of the getamap maps is that they are all from
early 2003 (I think the streetmap and multimap ones are
from the late 1990s)

Streetmap made their OS map content quite difficult to get
to - because I think they have to pay large royalties to
the Ordnance Survey or something like that every time
someone views it. The OS map content still exists on the
site however.

This is the map you get if you search for Cambridge. If you
scroll to the bottom of the map - you will see "BUY THIS MAP
Large Map" and then a plus button and a row of different
sized "houses" followed by a minus button. To get at the OS
Landranger 1:50000 stuff, you have to click on the 3rd
"house" from the left. Once you've got to the Lanranger
maps, you can pan around and you can click on "Large Map" to
get a wider field of view at the same scale. I think you
only have to do this once per search - you can zoom out -
pan around - and zooming back in will get you back to the
Landranger maps (whereas if you zoomed in straight away from
the link above, you'd just get the very zoomed in maps -
which have no contours on.)

grid reference because it dispalyed it in the search field.

I use Photoshop for this purpose - once you have put all your images together into one big map you can also draw on your route. Maps are usually taken from multimap - glitches allowing - or the OS site.

Paintshop Pro is good for the above - doing a screen capture
of said maps & then joining them together.
