Recommendations for large SPD sandals

You'll have to try them on. From looking at mine, if I cut
off the front 'bumper' there would be room for your toe
without sticking over much. The original Shimano sandals
came that way.

Lyle I've both brands of sandal albeit in size 43/44. (Each
sandal size applies to two foot sizes)

Leaving aside whether either the Lake or Shimano are
manufactured in the size you desire, I consider the Shimano
the better choice. The primary grievance I (and others I
know) have with the Lake is that the Velcro enclosure straps
are too narrow and have a tendency to dig into the flesh of
the upper foot when applying force on the upstroke. This is
annoying, especially for those who tend to ride sockless.

The Shimanos uppper on the other hand utilizes a design that
incorporates slightly wider enclosure straps as well as
wider secondary supports that are much more comfortable.

When pedalling I prefer the thinner sole of the Shimano. The
Lake has a much thicker sole, with a much more pronounced
toe bumper and is more suited to walking. It feels much
'spongier' than the Shimano. This is neither more or less
comfortable - just different.

The only instance I'd consider the Shimano inferior to the
Lake is when riding technical routes that leave your toes
vulnerable to injury. But in these cases a sandal is not the
recommended footware.

Oh, lastly, the Shimano has a reflective highlight on the
back of it's upper while the Lake hasn't.

The Lake sandals have a ridge on the front to protect toes;
this will certainly obstruct _your_ toes. Shimano sandals
lack this ridge and may work better.
