  1. I just got May's Runner's World and page 45 caught my eye.
It's titled Preventive Steps. I read it and this seems like
what I am experiencing. It is just in my left knee. A few
weeks ago it was in my right knee, but I quit running for a
while and I rode my bike and it went away. To my other knee.
Am I over training? Do I need Orthodics? In the article it
didn't say anything about orthodics. Should I just stick to
the exercises they give? Or should I ride my bike and see if
it does the same for the left as it did for the right knee?
Running in Bloomsday this Sunday. Will it be healed by then?

    Thanks for input

  2. Also as the article says. Pain may not be present until mid-run. The pain
I feel I just push aside and keep running. To what point is this bad?

I had a problem near the bottom of my left knee cap. I was
told to stretch the left side of my leg, illio band?. The
chronic problem went away after about three days of
    stretching. Worth trying.

  5. I think "running throught the pain" is not a good idea. I
used to do that to myself (I thought I was a "macho man"😉,
and I ended up hurting my knees badly to the point that I
had an operation to clean up the mess inside my knees. Mine
was a softening of the under side of my knee-cap. I believe
it is called "runner knee" or something like that. Your knee
    problem may be different.

There is one very tricky thing about this type of problem:
When I continued running despite the pain, I actually felt
that the pain seemed to have disappeared. This re-enforced
the idea that running is good for anything including pain.
Of course that was wrong, the heat generated from running
had masked the pain, and the thing that caused the pain was
    still there causing damage.

I am not a doctor. But if I were you, I would rest for at
least two weeks until I don't feel any pain around my knees
before running again (yes, I know that you have a race
coming). If the pain came back to me soon after I started
running, I would see a doctor who is specialized in injuries
    related to running.

I would be very careful about riding a bicyle if I still
had a knee problem, and I need to make sure the bike seat
is high enough to allow the knee not to bend over 90
degree. When I had knee problem, I would feel pain even
when I ride a bicyle or when I used a Nordica Track ski
    machine; it was that bad.

Hope you will run pain-free soon.

  6. See a Physical Therapist. Sometimes pain in a location, like
the knee, maybe a sign of a problem lower on your leg or
maybe on the other leg that you are over compensating for. I
would suggest you have an expert look at your walking and
running stride. If the problem just started because of a
change in your training (ie increasing your weekly distance,
running more hills) then it may be overtraining. Hard to say
from the information you provided. It will be difficult to
find the solution in such a short time frame.

I am doing Bloomsday too. This will be my first time at
    the event.

Good luck, maybe I'll see you in the mass of 50,000
    people... lol
