Don't think so - Oxford St is indeed 2 way. But don't forget
that it has the world's highest density (in both senses) of
pavement lemmings.

I think you're allowed to do it. I think it is possible to
do it, whether you're allowed or not. I'm not convinced it's
wise to do it, whether you're allowed or not.

Seriously, from Paddington there are much more sensible ways
to go than via Oxford Street. You can go along parallel to
Oxford Street on Wigmore Street for a start - far less
danger of being flattened by a bus and/or running into a
brainless pedestrian who thinks the road is an extension of
the pavement.

Myself, I'd take Marylebone-Euston-Pentonville-City Road-Moorgate-
London Wall route - it's faster and as long as you make sure
you get in the right lane round King's Cross, probably safer
for someone competent and confident like yourself.

yes, you definitely can. It is bus/taxi/cycle only but it is
usually a very slow road with often not enough space to
thread through the traffic and a high pedestrian density.
Since I only cycle up there once in a blue moon on my way to
paddington I tend to take it having not bothered to spend
the time to work out an alternative but it would be worth
considering using parallel back roads

I'm on there every day (well I was until I got made
redundant in Feb). No cars, supposedly (only ever seen 1
motorist, black of course, stopped on there), but buses and
taxis make up for it. Lots of traffic lights and pedestrians
too concerned with shopping and texting to look out for
bikes though. Will be on it tomorrow.

I was given to understand that at some times of day along
some parts of its length it's bus/taxi only, but can't find
anything particularly helpful about this on the web.

The strong probability is that bicycles are allowed at these
times anyway.

I should add that these are all roads I have actually cycled
on, so I think I know what I'm talking about - and I would
much rather cycle on these roads than Oxford Street.

That's right - from the Tottenham Court Road end all the way
to beyond Bond Street, I believe.

At least once you can see the Gherkin life is easy (my
building is opposite at no. 33). I'll try again going home.

London navigation defeats me every time! The way the road
names change every five yards, the sheer number and
complexity of junctions, the need to use both eyes and your
entire attention to avoid being wiped out by a taxi...

To say nothing of the scale of the maps. What would be a
mile on a normal map is about 100 yards in tghe A-Z!

Oh well, I got here in one piece, thanks in part to a
friendly cyclist who escorted me part of the way
(cheers, mate).

whether the traffic restrictions on Oxford Street only exist
to clear the roads for the most arrogant private motorists.
