That is what I was thinking. I was just curious if anyone had tried it and what they thought. The company website is full of information, but it all seems to be self generated with no real outside corroboration.

I have used a competitive product - Powerbreathe. I understand it is being used by the British Olympic squad? team?

There are studies that support inspiratory muscle training for athletic type training -

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=14985996

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=12166881

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=12165887

and a study that specifically gives a thumbs down to the product

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=11421512

Anecdotally, I found recovery between or after sprints in training, road primes, track points races and elimination races had improved greatly as found in one of the above studies. But that was N=1 🙂

Here are some further links relating to athletic performances

    http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/dept/coachsci/csa/vol71/volianit.htm

    http://www.exrx.net/Questions/Aerobic.html

    http://www.cptips.com/respart.htm

    http://nips.physiology.org/cgi/content/full/15/2/101

    http://www-rohan.sdsu.edu/dept/coachsci/csa/vol71/inbar.htm

The "cptips" site (#3 above) studies all the conflicting results but note the concluding paragraphs.

Where I find my Powerbreathe is useful is in warming up before an over AT effort like in a track pursuit or road TT. For precaution, I also use it for criteriums where there is also a possibility of fast and hard early laps.
