After years of riding a heavy, low-end beast on the road I have finally decided to upgrade. Right now I ride a ~10 year old Giant Perigree (~$350 new when I bought it). My local and trusted bike shop carries two types of road bikes; Lemond and Opus. Most of the Lemonds are out of my price range, but they have an '03 Opus Scherzo (Mostly Tiagra equipped) for $1000 (Canadian -- ~$750 USD). Opus is a smallish Canadian company that seems to make nice bikes, but I can find very little info other than on the official site. If anyone owns one of these bikes or can give me any sort of review I would be most grateful.
BTW -- I am a largish guy (6'2", 200lbs), with lots of MTB experience but just cross-training on the road. I don't have the time for my MTB any more, but do ~2X80K road rides/week at a moderate pace (~30K/hr).
If I recall, Opus was created a few years ago by a genteman working at a Canadian supplier of sporting and cycling goods. They are part of what is called designers compagnies, ie: they don't make frames, they modify existing geo. and make a production order in Asia. They have an excellent mid range $-Quality ratio, mostly made of Al and some frames CB .. I know stores that sell quite a lot of them and customers are happy .. hope this helps
